We added a new SOM to our leading SMARC System on Modules designed to achieve high-performance multimedia processing in demanding automotive, medical and industrial applications

Bangalore, India - February 18, 2019: Bangalore based embedded solutions provider iWave Systems added a new SOM to their leading line up of SMARC compliant System on Modules. Titled iW-RainboW-G27M, this high-performance SOM runs Yocto Linux 4.9.51 and Android Oreo 8.1.0*. It is based on NXP® i.MX 8QuadMax applications processors, designed to achieve high-performance multimedia processing in demanding automotive, medical and industrial applications.

i.MX 8QuadMax

The NXP i.MX8QuadMax module incorporates 2x Arm® Cortex®-A72 @1.8 GHz and 4x Arm® Cortex®-A53 @1.2 GHz application processor, and 2x additional Cortex®-M4F @ 266 MHz for advanced system control, providing a complete solution on a highly integrated SMARC R2.0 compatible module. It features 4K H.265 capable VPU, combined with 6GB LPDDR4  and 16GB eMMC Flash, on-board  Dual Gigabit Ethernet PHY, USB 3.0, 802.11n Wi-Fi & BLE4.0 and a host of other connector interfaces  making it ideal for multiscreen platforms and advanced industrial HMI and control.

The SOM is capable of implementing rich, fully independent graphics content across 4 x HD screens or 1 x 4K screen. The NXP i.MX 8QuadMax module provides 360-degree expanded sight which may be used for medical applications by using multi-camera inputs and VX vision extensions and can perform advanced echo cancellation and speech recognition for hands-off interactions. The SOM ensures critical visual information is protected with fail-over-capable quality of service to any display.

“iWave is committed to deliver high quality modules that will help our customers build products much quicker and with ease. It is a great opportunity for us to collaborate with NXP and we are excited to launch the new i.MX 8QuadMax based SOMs for multimedia focused applications,” says Abdullah Khan, President, iWave Systems Technologies, India.

“The i.MX 8 QuadMax families of applications processors are built with i.MX’s highest performance compute levels, secure domain partitioning, unique camera-display safety features and innovative vision processing,” said Ron Martino, Vice President and General Manager, i.MX Applications Processor Product Line at NXP. “We are pleased with the introduction of the iW-RainboW-G27M, which couples the i.MX 8 QuadMax with iWave’s strong product engineering services to help customers rapidly and effectively implement their own designs.”
