iW-ThinClient, WinCE6.0 R2 Thin Client design based on Freescale's i.MX27

Bangalore 5th July’09 : iWave, the hand-held expert has recently come out with its Thin Client Design, named iW-ThinClient based on Freescale’s i.MX27 processor.  This powerful design uses Ethernet as well as iWave’s SDIO WiFi module with 802.11(b/g/a) to connect the RDP client with the server. This module supports Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R2 OS with Microsoft’s Remote Desktop Protocol Version 6.0 and is targeted for applications like Kiosk, Point Of Sale (POS), CRM, Banking Terminals, Healthcare Management, Classroom PCs, Office Terminal and stock management/control….

Windows Embedded CE has supported Microsoft’s Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) for a number of generations of the operating system. RDP is the protocol that provides remote desktop capability to a client such that a user can use a lesser-powered device to log in to a Windows Server based system. The application that uses RDP is called the Terminal Server Client. Using the terminal services client, the remote session has the same look-and-feel of a standard Windows desktop complete with the Explorer shell and applications except that all the processing is performed by the Windows Server system.

With RDP, the Windows desktop UI on a server can be remoted to a Windows Embedded CE powered device, such as a thin client, so that it seems that Windows-based applications run on the target device. The applications are actually running on the remote server.
